An image has emerged reportedly of the moment a man caught a four-year-old who was thrown out of the Grenfell Tower block as it was being engulfed by flames.

According to The Mirror a man named Pat is the hero who caught the young child "like a rugby ball tucked into his chest," with an image of the aftermath believed to have been captured by Channel 4.

A witness, Kadelia Woods, 20, told The Mirror that the girl's mother was yelling for help from the fifth floor window.

Ms Woods said she had the young girl in her arms and Pat urged the woman to let go of her child.

"The mum was screaming and the fire was raging like crazy," Ms Woods said.

"Pat kept reassuring her and then the girl dropped."

The mother was reportedly understandably reluctant at first, but fortunately she put her trust in her neighbour.

"Everyone’s hearts stopped but Pat managed to catch her like a rugby ball tucked into his chest."

It is not known if the four-year-old's mother survived the blaze.

The Mirror reports that three children survived falling from the windows of the burning tower.
