Sex offender wife bad for marijuana business, husband explains

A man who married the woman jailed for starting a relationship with him as a minor is now divorcing her because their marriage is bad for his marijuana cigarette business.

Radar Online reports that Vili Fualaau, 33, said he and Mary Kay Letourneau, 55, had filed for separation on May 9 because he believes it will make it easier for him to get licensed as a distributor for marijuana cigarettes.

Letourneau was a 34-year-old mother of four, married to Steve Letourneau, when she began having sex with Fualaau, her sixth-grade student, in 1996.

The pair had previously met when he was in second grade at Shorewood Elementary School.

Now Fualaau said his wife’s criminal history, after serving seven years in jail could prevent his business from thriving.

“It’s not necessarily what you think,” he told Radar Online.

“When you want to get licensed, they do background checks on both parties.

“If I decide to be a part of it, I have to be licensed, and I have to be vetted, and so does a spouse.

She has a past. She has a history.”

The pair married in 2005 and have two children together.

Fualaau’s lawyer Whitney Gardner said the family were denying the report made by Radar Online.
