FBI agent 'travelled to Syria to marry ISIS terrorist'

An FBI translator travelled to Syria in 2014, married a key ISIS operative she had been assigned to investigate before returning to the US, according to reports.

It’s alleged Daniela Greene lied to the FBI about where she was going and warned her new husband he was under investigation.

CNN reports Greene married Denis Cuspert, a German rapper turned ISIS pitchman, who has a growing influence as an online recruiter for violent jihadists.

He reportedly went by the name of Deso Dogg but in Syria was known as Abu Talha al-Almani.

Federal court documents reveal Greene used Skype to get close to Cuspert.

Greene then allegedly lied to her husband who she told she was travelling to visit her parents in Munich, Germany.

Instead she travelled to Istanbul to contact Cuspert.

But within months of marrying the former musician Greene reportedly regretted her decision and returned to the US.

She was reportedly arrested on her return and pleaded guilty to making false statements involving international terrorism.

Greene was imprisoned for two years, a punishment a Justice Department Official said was “in line” with similar cases.

Former State Department official John Kirby said the debacle was an embarrassment for the FBI.

"So for her to be able to get in as an American, as a woman, as an FBI employee and to be able to take up residence with a known ISIS leader, that all had to be coordinated,” he said.

Her lawyer Shawn Moore said while Greene was remorseful she was “obviously naïve.”
