NSW Government under fire over 'lame' nightlife promo

Social media users have slammed a NSW Government promotional video aimed at showing off how much there is to do in Sydney at night, saying it actually proves the city "is dead".

The video was uploaded to the Transport for NSW Facebook page last week and online users have branded it as "lame", "cheesy" and as "government propaganda".

The video shows YouTube star Jayden Rodrigues and two friends on a night out in central Sydney's Haymarket district, walking the city's streets.

It shows the group play games at a virtual reality arcade, partake in karaoke and attend Chinatown's night markets, all activities that can be done in any city.

“One of my favourite ways to chill at summer is going to the movies,” Mr Rodrigues said in the video.

“The city is buzzing this summer with so many ways to spin your night.”

The video also shows the streets blocked off for the light rail works.

Twitter users have slammed the video and one person said it was "one of the most cheesiest pieces of government propaganda this year!"

Another tweeted: "Shame you can't go to the movies, theatre, amusement arcade or Karaoke bar in any other city".

Facebook user Vicky Stinson said the video is proof that "Sydney's nightlife is dead".

"Whoever is responsible for this needs to be fired," Joel Hubbard wrote.

Another social media, Lawrence Huskinson, branded the video as “lame” and said he enjoyed going to the arcade and drinking Slurpees when he was 12.

"I am 34 now, what some may refer to as an adult,” he wrote.

"I enjoy drinking beer, wine and cocktails - not Slurpees. So where can the adults go to have a good time?"
