Perth student accused of axe murder of parents and brother likely to face trial next year
A former Perth student accused of the axe murder of his mother, father and brother will likely face trial in February.
Henri van Breda’s pre-trial conference was postponed to February 3 in the Western Cape High Court on Friday.
Van Breda is out on bail of 100 000 rand (9400 AUD) following the triple-murder allegations.
He is accused of the brutal killings of his parents and brother, along with the attempted murder of his sister in 2015.
It’s alleged Van Breda used an axe to murder his mother, Teresa, his father, Martin, and his brother, Rudi.
The three were killed at their luxury home in the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate in South Africa.
Van Breda’s teen sister Marli survived the attack but required surgery.
She has since made a full recovery.
On Friday Van Breda’s lawyers requested more particulars from the State, leading to the postponement.
It’s claimed he was addiced to ‘Tik’ the South African street name for crystal methamphetamine, the drug of choice in poorer communities.
In September he was arrested for drug possession and released on bail for 1000 rand ($95 AUD).
