Girl crushed between two cars, driver allegedly six-times over legal limit

UPDATE: The driver who crashed into parked cars, crushing a little girl in-between, was allegedly on the phone and driving drunk at the time of the crash.

The 50-year-old woman was allegedly six times over the legal blood alcohol limit when she was arrested in Eastwood, in Sydney's north-west on Wednesday.

The six-year-old girl was photographed being cradled in her father’s arms, only moments after she was crushed between two cars in the horrifying scene.

Police claim the woman was on the phone when she crashed into several parked cars on Progress Avenue about lunchtime.

The young girl wedged between the cars was left with pelvic injuries, with a Westmead Hospital spokeswoman later confirming she was in a stable condition.

It's believed the accused had been trying to reverse her blue Subaru but instead went forwards, ramming multiple parked cars.

Inspector Anthony Boyd of Eastwood Police said the girl was lucky to survive the crash.

“With that level of impairment this could've been a catastrophic incident involving a young lady and her death or others,” he said.

The woman was taken to Ryde Police Station where she returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.303.

The woman has been charged with high range drink driving, causing bodily harm by misconduct and using a mobile phone while driving.

She faces a maximum 18 months behind bars or a $3300 fine if convicted of high range drink driving.
