Accused child molester Robert Ellis 'should serve 16 years in jail': prosecutors
Prosecutors claim an Australian man, accused of molesting 11 young girls, should spend 16 years in a Bali prison.
Robert Andrew Fiddes Ellis, 69, is on trial accused of allegedly luring young girls to his boarding house in Bali and sexually abusing them,
between 2014 and 2015.
Ellis, from Beechworth Victoria, faced Denpasar District Court on Tuesday where prosecutor Anak Agung Alit Suastika said the accused should be sentenced to 16 years in prison.
It was heard in court that the 69-year-old man allegedly lured the girls using cash, food and clothes in return for bathing them.
"After that, the defendant took the three girls home to where they were staying and the defendant gave them each 200,000 rupiah (about $A20)," the indictment given to Denpasar District Court said.
A child protection advocate told the court Ellis should receive a sentence longer than 16 years because it wouldn't be sufficient enough.
Speaking after earlier proceedings, Ellis's lawyer Benny Hariyono said they did not challenge the indictment, as many of the instances had already been confirmed by his client.
