Falsely accused 'duck napper' is actually the pets owner

A man criticised for stuffing a duck into a plastic bag at a Sydney Park is deemed a hero after it has been revealed the bird is his pet and was feeling under the weather.

An Asian man was filmed on Sunday trying to put a duck into a plastic shopping bag that was being held by a young boy at Camellia Gardens in Caringbah.

Online users slammed the man and his young companion for what they saw and reported it to the RSPCA as an act of animal cruelty.

However, the duck is named Yaya and is in fact a family pet who was taken to the park to "socialise" as it was feeling under the weather.

“The owner took the park for a social outing, because he looked sick,” a NSW police spokesperson told Yahoo7.

“He was still looking unwell after the outing so as taken to a nearby vet and is now receiving treatment."

Yahoo7 have contacted the Cronulla Veterinary Clinic to check on Yaya's progress but were unable to comment.

It is unknown if the duck is alive or dead.
