'Sweden's Fritzl': Doctor allegedly drugged, raped woman before locking her in fortified bunker

A Swedish doctor is accused of drugging his date and raping her in her home before driving her 550km to his country house where he intended to keep her in a bunker for "several years" as his "sex slave".

Police found a realistic mask at the 38-year-old's home outside Kristianstad in southern Sweden following his arrest on September 12, 2015, in a crime reminiscent of Austria's Joseph Fritzl.

The case has eerie echoes of Austria's Fritzl who in 2008 was found to have kept his own daughter as a sex slave for 24 years in a hidden bunker beneath his house where he fathered several children with her.

Prosecutors allege the unnamed man drugged the woman in her 30s as the pair met for a second date in her Stockholm flat, Swedish media reports.

The man allegedly used chocolate-coated strawberries laced with Rohypnol to knockout his victim before raping her. He used a pen to mark the stem leaves of the untainted fruits.

He put the woman in a wheelchair and placed a rubber mask over her head to disguise her as an elderly woman.

The physician drove her the 550km to his country home he had spent five years converting into fortified bunker with working kitchen and bathroom.

Along the way, the woman was injected with sedatives to keep her doped and soporific, according to Aftonbladet.

Police said the woman was locked up for six days in the 60 metre-square bunker with concrete walls more than 30 centimetres thick.

She was handcuffed for almost the entire time and raped repeatedly.

The doctor allegedly withdrew blood and vaginal tissue samples from the woman, later confessing he tested them at his work for STDs. He also reportedly fed the woman contraceptives so he could have unprotected sex with her.

Some days after her abduction, the doctor returned to the woman's flat to retrieve some items but police had broken into it on reports she was missing.

Reportedly panicked, the doctor retrieved the woman and threatened her with a gun before arriving at a police station in Sweden on September 18.

Prosecutors allege the doctor concocted a backstory and forced his victim to retell it to police. But officers became suspicious and pulled the woman aside.

She revealed the entire ordeal and her alleged captor was arrested. She was held captive for six days.

Since news of the kidnapping broke, details about the alleged perpetrator have emerged including a blog he kept in the late 1990s that included his likes and dislikes.

The blog listed his admiration for Christopher Walken and Arnold Schwarzenegger and "blowing stuff up" and his hatred of "communism, mosquitos and getting up in the morning".

Unnamed friends described their shock from the news with one suggesting the doctor was "almost too sharp, intellectually, for his own good".

Another said that while he was socially awkward, he was polite and courteous.

"In the beginning, when this got out, you kind of thought that 'maybe it's not so serious, maybe it's blown out of proportion', but now that he's been charged its become clear how f***ing sick this is. It's like a film," the friend said.

Prosecutors believed the doctor built the facility with intention of ensconcing his victim there for several years and may have intended to have more than one.

"We believe his intention has been to keep the woman locked up for several years," chief prosecutor Peter Claeson said in a statement.

"We also suspect him of planning this for years. Among other things, he has built the bunker to bring one or more victims."
