'People were crying': Jetstar passengers frightened for safety after plane was turned back to Adelaide

A Jetstar flight, en route from Adelaide to Bali, was turned around after passengers heard strange noises.

Those on last night's frightening flight are now questioning whether the aircraft should have been allowed to fly in the first place.

The flight was only an hour and a half in when the airline made the decision the turn back to Adelaide.

Passengers say they heard strange noises coming from the engine and feared for their safety.

Chantelle Giannopous told 7 News: “It was an intense moment and bit scary. There were people crying. I guess just the unknown.

“When we landed it was shaking a fair bit, like pretty scary stuff and it was going a lot faster than normal when you land.

“There were the fire brigade and stuff waiting for us. It was pretty scary.”

Those on board say the flight was originally delayed due to engineering issues and they are furious the decision was made to fly.

Jetstar says the cause of the mid air scare was a problem with one of three hydraulic systems.

The airline says the plane could have made it safely to Bali, but the decision was made to return to Adelaide where there's better engineering support.

The aircraft in question returned to service this afternoon.

Affected passengers also flew out today, thankful they are safe, but annoyed they've missed a day of their holidays.
