Five-year-old girl stabbed in the face and abdomen after trying to take man's pencil
A five-year-old girl is in a serious condition after being stabbed in the face and abdomen multiple times in regional Victoria.
Police claim the stabbing occurred with a 'sharp-bladed instrument’ after Madison tried to take her neighbour’s pencil.
The incident took place outside a low-cost apartment block on Learmonth Road in Mitchell Park, Ballarat just before 3pm on Sunday.
Police arrested a 23-year-old Mitchell Park man at the scene who is still being questioned by detectives.
The man uses a wheelchair and struggled to hold a cigarette, according to the ‘’Herald Sun.’’
Madison’s mother, Samantha Hastings posted her disbelief to Facebook this morning.
“Why would anyone hurt my baby girl” she wrote.
Ms Hastings, who has another daughter, later posted an update stating that her daughter’s condition had improved.
“Hi everyone Madison is doing abit (sic) better,’’ she claims.
Senior Sergeant Neil Robinson is appealing for more information on the incident.
“We've spoken to a number of people, but we'd like to hear from anybody who may have seen or heard anything,” he said.
