Brooklyn the dog's owner is a wanted fugitive

The owner of Brooklyn the dog, who was famously rescued from a wombat hole on Friday night, is wanted by police for alleged stalking and assault-related offences.

Reluctant celebrity Charlie Griffith has been taking part in live television interviews all weekend after his pesky pooch Brooklyn got himself trapped in a wombat hole in Nowra last week.

The newspaper reports that in a statement the family alleged Mr Griffith would call them up to 36 times a day about the broken down relationship.

On Friday night the Brooklyn, American Bulldog, was rescued after 100 NSW south coast locals spent seven hours digging out Brooklyn, after emergency services called off the search assuming the dog has died.

In an exclusive interview with 7 News reporter Ashlea Brown on Saturday, Mr Griffith said he was was amazed and speechless at how the community reacted to the search.

Charlie said: "I have never seen that kind of support for someone that people don't know, amazed with the social media and I am forever in your debt."

He added that Brooklyn would now be put in a strictly 'no wombat go zone'.

The bulky dog became trapped on Tuesday night when it chased a wombat down a burrow.

Emergency services brought in special equipment to try and find Brooklyn in a web of underground tunnels stretching up to 30m.

Victoria Police told Yahoo7: "Victoria Police are investigating reports a man wanted by Victoria Police for Warrants has been located in New South Wales.

"Victoria Police will continue to liaise with their New South Wales counterparts."
