FO7: South Australia coach linked to drug ring

A former country football club coach in the Riverland is being investigated for allegedly dealing drugs.

For legal reasons, Seven News Adelaide can't reveal the name of the former coach or his club.

However, SANFL Community Football Board chairman David Shipway has confirmed a police drug squad investigation is underway.

“The allegations that we're aware of is the person has been involved in drug trafficking and either is about or is facing charges in the very near future,” Mr Shipway said.

The president, secretary and trainer of the country club say they're not aware of any drug dealing.

There have been suggestions the former coach may have been selling ice to some of his players but at this stage those allegations can't be confirmed.

The shocking revelation comes a day after five people were arrested for drug trafficking in the Riverland. The ring was busted after police pulled over a car and allegedly found 10 grams of ice.
