Doctors baffled by 12-year-old boy's mysterious death
The mysterious death of a 12-year-old boy on the Gold Coast has baffled doctors as his parents try to grapple with the sudden loss of their son.
Lachlan Wall had crashed into a tree on his bike on Thursday.
His parents took him to hospital where staff saw to an injured shoulder and suspected fractured knee. He was sent home to recover.
In the very early hours of Sunday morning, after Lachlan had excitedly watched the Cowboys play in the NRL, he complained to his mother that he was 'freezing'.
Concerned, his parents rushed him to hospital. Within three hours, Lachlan had died.
“He was on no medication, had no health problems and this is what makes it the strangest thing. It could have been a slight scratch or something in the soil," Lachlan's father Karl Wall told Gold Coast Bulletin.
“When he watched the game on Saturday night with me he was yelling out and carrying on saying, ‘C’mon! It’s a Queensland grand final’."
Friends and family have sent their condolences to the Wall family via his school's Helensvale State High School Facebook page.
"He was a bright bubbly and funny and intelligent young boy. The walls are very involved with both Helensvale schools and the community and are just the most beautiful family," one user wrote.
"RIP Lachy...Jordan remembers how much fun you all had in Japan last year "always smiling". Love to family x (sic)" posted another.
Lachlan's father commends the work of Gold Coast University Hospital, who he said 'had about 50 specialists working on Lachlan to try to figure out what it was'.
“We don’t know at this stage unfortunately but I don’t want other kids thinking they are going to die every time they have an accident on their bikes," Mr Wall said.
