Woman gets fright of her life when snake slithers out while driving at 110kph
A Sunshine Coast commuter got the absolute fright of her life when a snake reared its head while she was driving at 110kph.
Tamara Duff was on her way to work when the red-bellied black snake popped up from under her bonnet on the highway at Forrest Glen.
Ms Duff saw the venomous snake slide under her car while she was getting fuel.
As she was already late for work, she decided to get in the car anyway.
About 30 minutes down the road the snake decided to show itself and give Ms Duff one hell of a fright.
"It actually popped its head up on my windscreen, so it was very much alive, and very much looking to get outa there,” she told Seven News.
In a panic while driving 110kph in an overtaking lane, Ms Duff managed to pull the car to the side of the road and contact local snake catcher Richie Gilbert.
“She was in a panic, pulled over on the side of the motor way,” Mr Gilbert told Yahoo7.
“It was a red-bellied black snake about 1.2m long… it came out while she was doing 100 and she was in an overtaking lane.
“She had the breaks on and was swerving around a bit… I don’t think anyone else knew what was going on,” he said.
It’s not the first time Richie has made the news this week either, the snake catcher publicly slammed a woman after she attempted to capture a deadly Lesser Black Whip Snake irresponsibly.
The anonymous woman messaged Mr Gilbert asking if he could identify a serpent she had had stepped on in an open pair of sandals.
Instead, Richie shared the photo on his Facebook as a warning to his followers on why they should avoid ‘being a hero’ and handling deadly reptiles.
It’s also not the first time Richie has had to deal with a snake in the car.
Earlier this year he forgot to tell his wife about a 1.5m snake in his own car after it went missing.
He then found himself in the doghouse when Nat Gilbert found the large python creeping out of the car steering wheel, as she was getting ready to drive home.
