A new book has accused Hillary Clinton of domestic violence during the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

'The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House' details how a White House maid was shocked to find the president and first lady’s bed covered in blood.

The blood belonged to the president, who said publicly that he “hurt himself running into the bathroom door in the middle of the night.”

But a White House staff member told author Kate Anderson Brower, “We’re pretty sure [Hillary Clinton] clocked him with a book.”

“There were at least 20 books on the bedside table for his betrayed wife to choose from,” Brower adds, “including the Bible.”

The accusation is just one in the in-depth look at the personal lives of US presidents.

Florist Ronn Payne said she overheard a shocking argument between the couple.

“All of a sudden, he heard the first lady bellow, ‘goddamn bastard!’ at the president — and then he heard someone throw a heavy object across the room. The rumor among the staff was that she threw a lamp,” Browser wrote.

Other presidents who feature in the book include John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, George H.W Bush, and current president Barack Obama.

The president was, at first, very uncomfortable with being waited on hand and foot.

Chief usher Stephen Rochon said: “With the Obamas, you had to keep it completely professional.”

But the family eventually grew closer to staff, particularly the African American butlers due to the “understanding and respect…about the realities of being black in America.”

Usher Worthington White said he caught the presidential couple dancing to Mary J. Blige's hit ‘Real Love.’
