Melbourne hipsters deliver food by parachute

Melbourne is considered by many to be Australia's hipster hub, with its funky small bars and cool laneway cafes. But a new twee trend makes cafe culture look positively bogan - introducing, the Jafflechute.

Yes, Australia's favourite toasted sandwich snack is being delivered by parachute by an enterprising group of jaffle fans.

The group have set up a website where Melbournites can place an order and pay via Paypal. Hungry hipsters then wait at a designated spot on Flinders Lane until shiny plastic parachutes bearing hot cheesy parcels descend.

At the time of writing, the site was closed for orders due to heavy demand. The service's popularity also extended to social media, where Jafflechutes have 1,150 Facebook Likes and 378 Twitter followers.

Jafflechutes aren't the only foodies taking to the rooftops in Melbourne, with Tourism Victoria proclaiming a trend for rooftop honey in 2013 as Melbourne restaurants and retailers use their rooftop space to house hives to supply local eateries.

And below ground, Melbourne’s underground bar scene continues to prosper, with hidden establishments like Bar Americano, Bar Ampere and The Everleigh, spruiking artisan cocktails featuring "foraged herbs, house-made liquors and bespoke spirits in their elixirs."
