National Treasure Now More 'precious'

Helping the plight of endangered animals is always a worthwhile cause.

But when such causes are combined with food, things start to go pear shaped.

Cue panda poo green tea - tea leaves which are fertilized by panda droppings in Ya'an, Sichuan province, China.

The concept is the brainchild of An Yanshi, who grows the tea leaves on tonnes of excrement he collects from pandas living at breeding centres in the area.

China's national treasure will perhaps become just a bit more precious with this idea - the first batch of panda dung tea will cost around NZ$4,200 for 50 grams, reports Reuters.

An Yanshi has happily declared it the most expensive tea in the world (what a surprise). He has also described it as a 'health boon'. Exactly what health it promotes, who knows.
