$1.9m lotto win inspires family reunion


A Melbourne woman is planning a family reunion overseas after winning $1.9 million on the Lotto.

The woman, who lives in Lysterfield in the city’s southeast, woke up to news on Monday morning she had taken home the TattsLotto division one prize of $1,977,896.39.

The millionaire said she was “just getting ready for work”.

“Oh my god,” she told The Lott.

“I can’t even believe it. I’m shaking.”

The woman said she plans to pay off her mortgage and share the winnings with her family.

“I’d love to be able to help out my family,” she said.

“My family lives overseas, so I definitely will go on a holiday to visit them. I might even surprise them with the news when I get there.”

She was one of two winning entries from Saturday night’s draw. The winning numbers were 43, 38, 40, 39, 10 and 5, while the supplementary numbers were 24 and 4.

The other division one winning entry belonged to a syndicate containing 10 Victorians.

Each member of the winning syndicate receives a share in the winnings worth $198,740.97.

“I can’t even believe it. I’m shaking,” the woman said after finding out she’d won on Monday morning.

In January, a winner in the US, who only won US$1 (A$1.41), demanded he be paid out with a giant novelty cheque.

The small-time winner was amazed Iowa Lottery agreed to meet his request to treat him like a big winner, and paid him out with a massive novelty cheque, with “Stinking Rich” written at the bottom of the cheque.

A Sydney mum in her 40s won the largest individual prize ever handed out in Australia after taking home more than $107 million in Powerball in January.

Despite her enormous win she said she has no plans to retire.
