WA Amateurs: North Beach put foot down

North Beach's star in the WA Amateur Football League has waned a little in recent seasons after their incredible run of seven A-Grade premierships in a row from 2004-2010.

But missing the finals is unthinkable for the proud club, who put their foot down in round 14 last Saturday to cement third place with a 9-5 record as a chasing pack tries to knock them out.

They thrashed Maddington by 97 points at Harmony Fields - one of many away games North Beach have to play from now on because their home, Charles Riley Reserve, is undergoing a facelift.

North Beach were stung by the previous week's pasting by top team Wesley Curtin when they scored only 4.6 and had discipline problems.

The Tigers responded with their highest score of the season, 20.10, against Maddington and are two wins clear of fourth-paced Trinity Aquinas with four rounds left.

North Beach appear to be the only team who could spoil the prospect of a Wesley Curtin v University grand final. The top two are three wins clear of North Beach.

Reigning premiers University brought Mt Lawley back to earth with a 27-point win in a low-scoring encounter at Hamer Park, while Wesley had a comfortable home win over Fremantle CBC.

In B-Grade, Bull Creek Leeming continued their purple patch with a two-point win over West Coast Cowan to keep third spot on the ladder, behind Kalamunda and Scarborough.
