Dennis Cometti: Cat call all wrong

Dennis Cometti: Luck evades Dockers
Opportunity knocked but the door didn't open.

Where to start? Simonds Stadium? Horrible decision!

I heard Geelong GM Brian Cook talking on Saturday.

He mentioned the AFL stood to make an extra $500,000 to $750,000 with the game played in Geelong instead of the Docklands.

He also obliquely referred to some Federal Government funding his footy club was pursuing (albeit with the window for approval rapidly closing).

Was this unseemly rush in someway connected to one or both of Cook's comments?

If playing at Simonds Stadium is such a sound idea it would have been equally sound back in January.

And why was it team specific? Somehow Sydney were exempt.

It was simply a Dockers deal.

And may I say, in the wake of everything else that's been said on this matter, the broadcast boxes and facilities aren't up to finals standard either.

I know what you're thinking self, self, self.

Maybe you're right but throw it on the pile anyway.

And then there's Ross Lyon.

Turns out his genius knows no bounds. Somehow he factored in the double-whammy.

Not only did Brisbane offer only token resistance, Geelong claimed it couldn't get motivated because of the Dockers decision to approach people they found wandering the coffee strip to strip for the club during a "freebie" in Melbourne.

Often, motivation and momentum are hard to rekindle!

Go Dockers.
