MBA judge Kevin Sale said the trends he noticed with display homes included bigger open living areas.

“The trend from the past few years has also been bigger outdoor areas which are undercover and are perfect for entertaining,” he said.

“The quality of the top-level houses this year was even better compared to previous years and each year the quality of houses seems to surpass the last year.”

Zorzi South and Perkins Builders were the major winners of the night, taking home the 2015 Best Country Home and 2015 Best Commercial Project, respectively.

Zorzi South managing director Adrian Zorzi said he was pleased to win the Best Country Home for the second consecutive year, this year for a property on Wickham Road in Witchcliffe.

“The clients came to us looking for a family home, they had a dream block of 40ha and they wanted their dream home,” he said.

“We did all of the design and construction including the interiors and the family was very pleased with the result – it’s a high-end home.

“I’m especially proud because it was our own design and construction rather than relying on architects.”

Perkins Builders managing director Dan Perkins said he was pleased to win the 2015 Best Commercial Project for their head office in Bunbury because he knew they would be judged harshly.

MBA South West manager Geoff Bosustow said he thought it was one the best awards nights the organisation had hosted.

“The feedback we have received from the night was great and people enjoyed celebrating the achievements of the building industry, including the apprentices,” he said.

“The major winners were both very deserving and the night showcased the best of the industry and what it is capable of.

“It was great to have Housing Minister Colin Holt at the awards because we have never hosted a Housing Minister at our awards night before.”
