Sustainable polystyrene building
A new office building in Kwinana built completely from sustainable polystyrene bricks is the first of its kind in Australia, according to Toxfree managing director Steve Gostlow.
Speaking at the official reopening of the $4 million Kwinana Resource Recovery Centre on Tuesday last week, Mr Gostlow said the newly completed office facility was constructed from R-control structural insulated panels, contributing to the site’s seven-star energy efficient rating.
He said the waste management and industrial services company, which had operated out of the Mason Road site since 2001, was committed to providing environmentally friendly operations and looked forward to continuing to work with clients.
“The Kwinana Resource Recovery Centre has undergone a huge transformation, and Toxfree is committed to long-term safe, reliable and sustainable services for WA,” he said.
Mr Gostlow said the two-year renovation project would not have been possible without the dedication of building firm JWH Group and the centre’s 20-strong team of employees.
City of Kwinana councillor Dennis Wood, who formally opened the site, said earning a seven-star energy efficient rating was a “brilliant achievement” for Toxfree, and the new operation reflected the progress that had been made in sustainability innovation in the area.
Assembled guests enjoyed a special performance from an Aboriginal dance group, as well as tours of brand new facilities.
