Aquatic hire service fills niche

An observation about the lack of family activities in Bunbury and some intuitive thinking was the catalyst for two university lecturers to set up a business by the sea.

Tracey Pitts and Steve Rigney have opened Dolphin Aquatic Hire on the Leschenault Inlet.

Stand up paddle boards, five-seater paddle boats and sit down kayaks are all available, with the latest in safety equipment and innovation.

Ms Pitts said the results of a feasibility study showed a real need for a hire business.

“The position near Koombana Bay Resort was obvious because over the summer months they get more than 5000 people going through there, ” she said.

“It has been really successful, we have given out 5000 brochures and people are already making bookings.”

Ms Pitts said the business would also offer other experiences to beachgoers.

“With the stand up paddle boards, people can hire them out or we do lessons as well. It is a full body workout on one of these things, ” she said.

“We will also do yoga, tai chi and bike hire.

“We are even going to be doing team building and corporate training.”

Ms Pitts said the support she got from Mayor Gary Brennan was vital in getting the business of the ground.

“As soon as we met him he said it was a fantastic idea and wanted it happening as quickly as it could, ” she said.

“We had to go through a lot of red tape to get this off the ground. Without Gary Brennan this wouldn’t have happened as smoothly.”
