Hedland actress has Hollywood dream

Zaydah-lee left Hedland and is eyeing off a career in Hollywood.

A Hedland-born film star is calling on locals to support her effort to become Star Central Magazine's most promising actress of the year for 2013.

Zaydah-lee moved out of the Pilbara when she was five and has been working towards her dream of becoming a film director.

She has appeared in local film productions, including These Final Hours and Super Dingo, and her career took a leap when she landed a role in the joint US-Australian science fiction film Red White and Bluey last year.

Zaydah-lee is working as an ambassador for World Pictures Australia in Melbourne and Perth, but said her career would hit new heights if she secured the most promising actress of the year competition.

"I definitely encourage everyone to vote for me; even if they only vote once it could possibly be what pushes me through at the end," she said.

"I'm about to have a Skype call with a casting agency in Sydney that are looking at flying me over for some film work.

"If I'd been able to tell him today that I've won this competition, I would have been flying out this weekend, but he's still watching to see what happens."

Zaydah-lee said her career path had involved a lot of moving around and working dead-end jobs to help her pay the bills.

"I try to keep casual work because I like to keep dedicated to any roles that come up, but it is very difficult financially," she said.

"I have set my sights on Hollywood, not for the fame and fortune, but because in your career here you're often doing 18 hours a day, six days a week and you're doing it for free."
