Top businesses fly high at award night

Lone Eagle Aviation Services has been named the overall winner of the 2012 East Kimberley Small Business Awards, held last Friday at the Lakeside Resort.

The Kimberley company, one of seven category winners on the night, overcame its competitors to receive the main accolade, putting it in the running for the State equivalent of the awards.

Owner Lance Conley said his employees were proud to receive recognition from their own community.

“All the team here at Lone Eagle helped with our submission in some way so we are all extremely excited and everyone wants to travel to Perth to represent the Kimberley at the State level,” he said.

Mr Conley thanked the event organisers and sponsors, particularly Rio Tinto.

Lone Eagle also won the category for a small business with 10 to 20 employees.

Renee Chapman at the The Admin Chick received the award for a home-based business, while the micro-business award went to the Zebra Rock Gallery.

The House Factory won the award for a business with five to 10 employees and Crosscountry Contractors from Wyndham was named the best Aboriginal business. IGA Xpress Halls Creek was the best franchisee and Yarliyil Art Centre, also at Halls Creek, received the award for the best new business.
