An imaginative collection of fashion items, ranging from spoons, balloons and seashells entertained a full house at the civic centre on Saturday night.

A large field of contestants from three schools took part in the fourth Esperance heat of the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards.

Master of ceremonies Derek Clarke said the awards had come a long way from a small field of just five entrants held in the reception room of the centre in 2010 to 38 garments being made and modelled for this year’s event.

He said it had a long and prosperous future in Esperance judging by the number of students entering the competition.

The entrants from Esperance Senior High School, Wongutha CAPS and the Esperance Anglican Community School designed garments and had 90 seconds to model on the catwalk. It was the first time students from Wongutha and EACS had taken part. A total of 10 entries were selected to represent Esperance in the State finals in Perth on September 22.

Eleanor McCleave won the formal wear section while Paris Gibson, Ella Moir, Micaela Worth and Dione Voyatzis were selected for the casual wear category. The winners of the wearable art category were Tayah Gardner, Yani Hayward, Eleanor McCleave, Megan Woodfield and Micaela Worth.
