Environment influences lifestyle trend

It has been the topic at the forefront of our minds for several years and it seems the environment is still the number one factor influencing the way West Australians live in their homes.

"Australia has a long way to catch up to some of the amazing sustainable and eco-friendly solutions and technology being developed in Europe and being used in building projects," trend forecaster Bree Leech says.

"It's not the time to become complacent but rather the opposite. Green concepts will permeate our lives (and) sustainable solutions will be expected, not an afterthought or special feature."

Wall Candy's Wendy Culbertson says this year will see West Australians continuing to spend more time at home, with a focus on entertaining and comfort.

"The kitchen, both indoor and outdoor, certainly remains prominent to our lifestyle as does our lounge-living area," she says.

"Back to basics is big, be it a favourite piece of furniture with a beautiful grain in the wood or with the food we enjoy - good-quality, fresh, no-nonsense dining is a winner. We are not playing it safe, this is the most decadent take we have seen on natural for years."
