New Avengers trailer leaks

In proof there's no superpower quite as strong as technology, the much-anticipated trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron has been leaked.

Marvel fanatics thought they had to wait for next week's episode of Agents of Shield on America's ABC to get a sneak peek at the latest instalment of the blockbuster franchise.

But they would have been pleasantly surprised on Wednesday when the clip materialised online.

"Dammit, Hydra." Marvel tweeted in a fitting acknowledgement of the leak.

The trailer of the film includes never-before-seen footage including scenes with the villainous Ultron, played by James Spader.

The first Avengers movie is the third highest-grossing film in US box office history, behind Avatar and Titanic.

Also directed by Joss Whedon, it raked in a whopping $US1.5 billion ($A1.62 billion) in 2012.

The sequel, to be released next May, features original cast members Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, along with newcomers Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Johnson.
