Law's run ends

The Donmar Warehouse production of Hamlet, starring Jude Law and directed by Michael Grandage, ends its limited-engagement Broadway run as scheduled on December 6 at the Broadhurst Theatre.

The producers previously announced that the production - which originated at London's Donmar and played the West End and Denmark - had recouped its investment after seven weeks on Broadway. By close, it will have played 72 performances and 25 previews.

Law returned to Broadway for the first time since 1995 when he made his Tony Award-nominated debut in Jean Cocteau's Indiscretions (Les Parents Terribles).

He plays Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie's new film, Sherlock Holmes, being released on December 25.

The company of Hamlet is appearing with the permission of Actors' Equity Association.

Law plays melancholy Prince Hamlet in Shakespeare's tragedy. "Consumed with grief, Prince Hamlet determines to avenge his father's death with devastating consequences for his family and the kingdom."

The production is designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting design by Neil Austin. Composer and sound designer is Adam Cork.
