Perry accused of plagiarism with new single
Katy Perry has been accused of imitating another artist with her new single, Roar.
MTV VJ Dave Holmes was among the first to pick up on the similarities between Perry's latest track and Sara Bareilles' song, Brave, which was released in April.
"It’s disappointing that Katy Perry borrowed Sara Bareilles’ song instead of her overall thing of being good at her job,” Holmes tweeted last week.
Since Holmes' observation came to light, a number of critics have also jumped on the bandwagon accusing the 27-year-old of plagiarism.
"Seems Katy Perry and I have something in common, we both love Sara Bareilles' music. Only difference is I didn't steal it," one of Barielle's angry fans tweeted.
According to gossip website RadarOnline, Perry's producer Dr. Luke has denied that Roar is a rip-off of Brave, claiming that it was written and recorded long before Barielles' song was released.
Perry, however, appears to be unfazed by the copycat saga, tweeting just this week about what inspired her to write the new track, which will feature on her next album, PRISM, due out in October.
"Secretly... I love how when I wrote #ROAR I was just trying to write a song about being a mega cat lady. Shhh, don't tell anyone," she tweeted on Wednesday.
