Morton joins brothers at Perth
Perth have pulled off a major WAFL coup, signing former Melbourne and West Coast squad member Cale Morton.
Morton played for East Perth this year after returning from Melbourne and earned three games at West Coast, but the Eagles de-listed him at the end of the season.
Morton, 23, originally from Claremont, will join his older brothers Jarryd and Mitch at the Demons in 2014.
He played 73 games for Melbourne from 2008 to 2012.
Football manager Brendan Kays said Morton, the No.4 pick in the 2007 national draft, would bolster Perth with his versatility and experience.
"Cale's a great talent who can play in a number of different positions," Kays said. "Someone who has played 80-odd AFL games at his age is certainly going to be an asset to the club."
Kays said Morton's experience, along with that of his brothers, would be invaluable to younger Demons.
Mitch Morton, a member of Sydney's 2012 premiership, played 83 games with West Coast, Richmond and the Swans from 2005-13, and Jarryd lined up in 22 matches with Hawthorn from 2007-2011.
Kays said Jarryd Morton had been one of the stars in pre-season training, along with Joel Leeson, Joel Houghton and Jarrad Irons.
"Jarrad Irons, who missed a lot of the (2013) season, has been training really well," Kays said.
Gerald Ugle has also slotted back into the club seamlessly after two seasons with Greater Western Sydney.
