Saul's a top performer at just 15

At just 15, Saul Campion is the youngest student preparing to sit this year's WA Certificate of Education exams.

As well as tackling a full load of six Year 12 subjects, the Guildford Grammar School student fits in several hours of music practice each week.

The talented singer and trombone player hopes to continue his music studies at the WA Academy of Performing Arts. Saul's mother Lynn said it was hard to say just how much music practice he did because it was such a huge part of his life.

"He's always got a guitar in his hands and he writes as well, so there is just music going constantly around the house," she said. Saul, who skipped three years of primary school, is also school music captain.

Guildford headmaster Stephen Webber said the historic argument against accelerating students through the grades was that they would not cope socially.

But research had shown they were more comfortable with older peers because of their intellectual ability and maturity.

"Saul has certainly thrived in Year 12," he said.
