Two men are lucky to be alive after the car they were driving slammed into a tree in Dianella last night.

The crash happened on Morley Drive, near the intersection with Dianella Drive, in wet conditions about 6pm.

The impact caused the blue two-door sedan to wrap around the tree in the middle of the median strip, scattering debris along the road with the front bumper landing more than 10m from the car.

The passenger was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by fire and rescue officers before he could be rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.

He was seriously injured in the crash but was last night in a stable condition.

The driver was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

A man who helped treat the injured pair after the accident said the passenger had borne the brunt of the crash, suffering injuries including a broken leg.

He said the driver received a heavy knock to the head but was otherwise injury free.
