SW fire victims receive fund payout

Victims of the Margaret River bushfires have received their first payments from the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund.

A total of 14 payments ranging from $7,000 to $32,000 have been made to people whose homes were destroyed in the fire last November.

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the amounts varied depending on for home owners and occupiers and only 14 applications for assistance were made when the payments were approved.

"However, the Shire of Augusta Margaret River anticipates that more than 100 applications will ultimately be received," Ms Scaffidi said.

“I wish those who have been affected badly by the fires all the best as they continue the task of rebuilding their homes and lives."

The appeal closes at the end of the month.
