Sweetie darling, join us for champers at the Savoy Hotel with Edina Monsoon herself!

The last time Ross Coulthart visited London’s plush Savoy he was interviewing Dawn French, so it made sense that he’d return for a chat with her comedy partner and lifelong friend, Jennifer Saunders.

From French & Saunders to Absolutely Fabulous, Saunders is comedy royalty – but she’s been notoriously publicity-shy throughout her incredible thirty-year career. With the release of a new autobiography, Bonkers, Jennifer is ready to share her story with the world.

With a glass of bubbly and her dog Olive by her side, Saunders tracks a career that’s been characterized by strong female friendships. She credits Dawn French with giving her the freedom and confidence to try comedy, while her professional relationship with Ab Fab co-star Joanna Lumley soon blossomed into a firm friendship.

Along the way, she’s juggled the pressures of motherhood with her fame, and in recent years, has battled – and beat – breast cancer with humour and grace. At 55, Saunders says that her lifelong shyness finally evaporated once she hit 50. “I’m more bold now. I just don’t care anymore!”

Jennifer Saunders’ new autobiography, Bonkers: My Life in Laughs, is out now through Penguin Books Australia.
