Freeway crash slows traffic to a crawl

Motorists angry over traffic delays caused by a crash on the South Eastern Freeway this morning say they should be given more warnings so they can find alternate routes.

Thousands of peak hour commuters were late for work this morning after a five-car pile-up caused mayhem on the down track of the freeway.

The collision occurred at about 8.40am about 500 metres from the toll gate, leaving two lanes closed and causing a bottleneck up the freeway.

Angry motorists said they suffered long delays getting to Adelaide.

“I was backed up all the way past the tunnel and just sitting in traffic for hours,” one motorist told 7News.

The road was finally re-opened two hours later after the wreckage was cleared.

The Traffic Management Centre changed speed limits and put up automated warnings, but drivers say the signs should have advised them to take other routes.

“Clearly the whole freeway is blocked and no one knows,” one driver said.
