Father acquitted over violent bashing of son's molester

An Eagleby father has been acquitted over the bashing of a man who molested his 10-year-old son during a State of Origin party last year.

The father, who can't be identified, flew into a rage, shattering the man's cheek, eye and nose.

The jury found any reasonable parent would have reacted the same way.

"I did it to protect my children, I'd do anything for my children," the father said.

The Eagleby father bashed Shayne Davidson, a childhood friend who molested his then 10-year-old son, shattering Davidson's cheek, eye and nose.

Without surgery, he would have had double vision, and been deformed for life.

The case come down to whether any normal reasonable person would react the same way, and the jury agreed any parent would, under the same circumstances.

"I can't wait to go home and tell him I'm not going to jail," the father said.

"You can't trust anyone - I say to parents think before you act."

The child molester pleaded guilty but never spent a day behind bars.

His young victim is still undergoing counselling.
