Police unearth $82 million worth of cannabis

Queensland police have located more than $82 million worth of cannabis on a rural property at Mt Pelion via Mackay.

In a media release this afternoon, police confirmed they executed a search warrant on the property over a three day period.

Two sites were identified by operation Juliet Unearth, with a combination of 33,000 plants discovered- ranging from seedlings to well developed 8-foot high plants.

Acting Detective Inspector Mark Slater said the seizure of a cannabis plantation of this proportion will greatly disrupt the development and distribution of marijuana in the region.

"The targeted operation focused on production, supply and distribution of dangerous drugs by organised syndicates operating out of the Mackay area. We are extremely pleased with the results, which are the culmination of several months of extensive investigations," he said.

While Slater was stoked with his findings, he said the force would not rest on the issue until the perpetrators were brought to justice.

"We will continue to seek out criminals and prosecute those involved in the production and trafficking of illegal substances."

Charges are yet to be laid as police continue their investigations.
