Salt Creek victim 'covered in blood from head-to-toe': police witness

A policewoman who rushed to Salt Creek after the alleged attack of two backpackers has told a court “there was blood everywhere”.

Senior constable Natasha Parsons was stationed at Meningie when she received a call for help from the Salt Creek Roadhouse in February 2016.

The 16-year veteran cop described seeing the two women for the first time, claiming one victim was covered in blood from head-to-toe.

“(She) had a towel around her head … there was blood everywhere,” Snr con Parsons told the South Australian court.

“I’ve never seen anyone so covered in blood in all my life.”

Snr con Parsons said the scene was like nothing she’d ever seen as both women were brought up from the beach.

She told the court the second woman was found crying, was highly distressed and was holding a towel over the side of her face.

The court has heard the two backpackers were allegedly attacked by a 60-year-old man, who they met online. The accused cannot be named for legal reasons.

During evidence from a forensic officer, the jury was shown a bikini bottom that had allegedly been cut off by the accused as well as two lengths of rope seized from the Salt Creek campsite.

Salt Creek Roadhouse owner Adam Stewart also gave evidence on Tuesday, recalling the moment the women arrived at the venue.

He told the court one of the backpackers had dark eyes, was in shock and was covered in blood.

Mr Stewart said he comforted that woman by telling her she was safe and that her friend was safe with an ambulance on the way.

The trial resumes on Wednesday.
