Driver 'flees interstate' after dangerous dashcam vision released

The driver of a truck seen hurtling down a Sydney highway and swerving across traffic has reportedly fled interstate as police look to press charges.

The rogue truck was filmed narrowly missing a number of vehicles on the Great Western Highway at St Marys, with authorities saying it was lucky no one was killed.

“Someone could’ve been killed, I mean it’s just shocking,” chief inspector Phil Brooks said.

The owner of the truck was summoned to bring the truck in for an inspection, with officers finding problems with the brakes.

“Mate I’ve got nothing to say,” the owner Abdul Hamzi told 7 News.

“It wasn’t me, not the driver.”

Mr Brooks said the truck was defected and taken off the road.

It won’t be able to leave the inspection site until those defects are fixed.

Mr Hamzi says the driver has fled interstate but has reportedly refused to provide police with the driver’s details.

The trailer on the truck has also gone missing.

“The trucks are safe … it’s just the way they’re driving, nothing to do with the trucks,” Mr Hamzi said.

Mr Hamzi’s vehicles are now off the road with the business facing hefty fines.
