Perth teen escapes injury after running into barbed wire trap

A teenage girl was lucky to escape serious injury after she jogged into a barbed wire trap set up in Perth’s east.

Maddie Cox had been out on her evening jog in High Wycombe when her legs became tangled in the booby trap.

“It was definitely on purpose,” the 16-year-old said.

“It was set as a trap and I ran into the trap.

“I don’t understand why someone would do that.”

The barbed wire had been strung across a road and footpath, and was tied to a power pole.

Maddie’s parents say it is lucky no one was seriously injured in the trap.

“Maddie didn’t get hurt, she just got a little scratch. Somebody else, an old lady could have been waking down here, fallen over and cracked their head on the concrete,” Maddie’s dad Colin said.

“A kid on a moped could have come down here and got tangled up and ended on the other side of the road there so (it’s) very dangerous.”
