Man runs from court, climbs onto hotel roof

A man who escaped custody from a court house on the Sunshine Coast has been charged after a stand-off with police.

The 27-year-old man ran from the Maroochydore Magistrates Court at about 2.30pm on Monday and was located at about 4pm on the roof of a nearby hotel on First Avenue, Mooloolaba.

He was arrested at 7.30pm after a tense three hour stand off with police.

"He put himself in further danger by jumping off that roof as well," Insp Michael Miley said. "It's just fortunate that he has landed correctly and has been able to be safely taken back into police custody."
