Snake on a train: Slippery passenger confiscated

A three-foot long jungle python has been confiscated after its owner allegedly revealed it to passengers on a train in the Central Coast region of New South Wales.

Police met the northbound train at Woy Woy Railway Station at about 1am on Wednesday, after reports that a passenger was travelling with a live snake.

Authorities were told the man began showing the slippery passenger, which had allegedly been in a backpack, to other passengers on board.

Passengers who were concerned for the welfare of the snake, named "Bread", contacted authorities, according to police.

Police say at the Woy Woy Railway Station the man told officers that he did not have a permit for the snake.

The animal was taken to the Woy Woy Police Station.

Staff from a reptile park are expected to examine it today.

Investigations are ongoing.
