The Seven Hills man reportedly suffered two collapsed lungs, a broken nose and rib and back injuries when police with capsicum spray tackled him to the ground after pulling him over for sideswiping a number of cars along Old Windsor Road.

He went into cardiac arrest at the scene and had to be resuscitated.

Mr Brooks’ brother Garry, who spoke to 7 News on condition that his face was not shown, described the last time the two had seen each other.

“He said goodbye and I said, 'I'll see you later on' and that was it. And I didn't see him until the hospital," he said.

“He's a nice bloke. He's just a down to earth bloke. I can't understand what's happened,”

He said, while his brother had never been in this kind of trouble before, he would not be laying blame on anyone until a police investigation has been completed.

Mr Booth, who was known to police, is in an induced coma but his condition has improved and he is expected to survive.
