'I heard it crying': Cat found tied up in bag, discarded by river

A small, white cat has been found tied up in a plastic bag and discarded by the edge of a river in Queensland.

It was discovered when a passerby heard it crying near the Logan River in Jimboomba, south of Brisbane, on Wednesday.

Katrina Thoroughgood and her companions were amazed and furious at what they found and posted pictures of the incident to Facebook, saying the little cat was “so lucky”.

The images show a stuffed chicken feed bag tied with a white string, before it was opened to reveal the slightly dishevelled cat inside.

“I don’t know how she survived,” Ms Thoroughgood wrote.

The cat, who had a blue collar and microchip, was taken to a local vet and its finders are hopeful her owners will be located.

The pictures prompted equal fury from other social media users, with one woman calling it “disgusting”.

“Wonder how long it was there for poor thing would of [sic] been scared,” said Lauren Davies.

Ms Thoroughgood said the cat did not look too bad when she was found and may not have been there for too long.

It is not yet known how she ended up by the river or who put her in the bag.
