Shocking video has emerged of a stunned snorkeler's scary underwater tussle with an arm-latching octopus who refused to budge off the coast of Western Australia.

The snorkeler said he "felt a tight squeeze" on his arm after "sticking" his hand a weedy hole on a dive adventure.

When he pulled his arm out from inside the cave, he was shocked to find an octopus firmly latched to his arm.

The strong-willed octopus refused to budge and stayed on the shocked snorkeler's arm for several minutes.

The stressed snorkeler then attempted several times to remove the octopus, a mission that proved unsuccessful.

After several minutes, the octopus finally unlatched itself swam away into another nearby crevice.
