Vic pollies not well known: straw poll

With just over a month to go until November's state election, most Victorians still don't know who the opposition leader is.

In a straw poll of 206 enrolled voters in the Melbourne CBD, only 35 per cent could name Labor leader Daniel Andrews when shown a photo, according to a poll published in Fairfax media.

Less than two-thirds (61 per cent) were able to put a name to Premier Denis Napthine despite 18 months in the top job.

Only six per cent could name Treasurer Michael O'Brien and five per cent could name Deputy Opposition Leader James Merlino.

Victorian Greens Leader Greg Barber had a recognition rate of six per cent.

The street survey was conducted last week by Swinburne University journalism students as part of the state election reporting project Unipollwatch.
