Woman arrested over MP attack claim

A woman has been arrested for allegedly attacking former NSW premier Nathan Rees at a shopping centre.

The alleged incident happened at the Seven Hills shopping centre in Sydney's west on Wednesday morning.

The woman was arrested by NSW Police at her home on Thursday and taken to Blacktown police station.

She claims to have had previous personal contact with Mr Rees, that she didn't recall hitting him and only yelled at the Toongabbie Labor MP after he gave her a smug look.

"And then he laughed in my face and said `you made it so easy for me', like it was all just a game," she told the Seven Network.

The former premier didn't require medical attention.

Mr Rees, who retires from state politics at the March election, confirmed an incident had occurred.

"I hold genuine fears for people's safety," the MP said in a statement.

"The matter is in the hands of the police."

He wouldn't comment further.
