Woman in court over racist Vic train abuse

A woman arrested after a female commuter was racially abused and pushed off a Melbourne train was on bail at the time and had assaulted other women, a court has heard.

Madeline Luke, 31 of Fawkner, was arrested on Wednesday night and charged after a string of incidents at train stations and on trains in inner-suburban Melbourne.

Court documents show she is charged with assaulting four women, some with Asian or African names, on September 25.

One of the alleged attacks included pushing a woman off a train when it came to a stop at Batman Station.

Luke is also charged over two further assaults on women in Docklands on August 11.

"There are a number of separate incidents," Luke's lawyer told the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

"Most of those she has a recollection of but there is one she does not."

The charges include intent to cause serious injury while on bail, unlawful assault and making threats in public.

There was no application for bail and Luke was remanded to reappear on October 23.
